We’ve seen some new faces at the market recently as shoppers seek out new avenues to source their food and we thought this would be a good time to kick start our blog again!
You may be wondering – “What exactly IS a Farmers Market anyway?”
The easiest way to think of it is like a grocery store – but local! All of our vendors are from Broome County or the surrounding region. We have many of the same products you would find at any supermarket – fresh produce, meat, poultry, eggs, bread & baked goods, honey & maple products, and so much more!
As a local farmers market, food comes directly from the grower or producer to the market, cutting out the middleman. It also means that food is seasonal – so while we may not have tomatoes right now, we have tons of other fresh produce, including some varieties you haven’t tried before.
“You’re a year-round market – how can you possibly have fresh produce in the middle of an Upstate NY winter?” – Easy! Some of our vendors have greenhouses or high tunnels that extend their growing season, some grow hydroponically so that they can grow-round, and many crops can be stored via cold storage and brought to market week after week.
