Farmers Market Benefit Programs

The Broome County Regional Farmers Market is a redemption site for a number of additional benefit programs. Today, we will highlight the different programs available to market shoppers.

SNAP/EBT – Did you know that your SNAP benefits can be used at the market? You can use SNAP to purchase bread, baked goods, fruit, vegetables, meat. fish, poultry, eggs, honey, maple products & more!

How does it work? Bring your card to the Market Information Booth. Tell us how much you want to spend and we will swipe your card and exchange it for $1.00 tokens. The tokens can then be used to shop with eligible market vendors. You will also receive a $2.00 bonus coupon for every $5.00 in SNAP spent!

WIC/Senior FMNP Checks – The Farmers Market Nutrition Program provides checks to eligible women, infants, children, and seniors that can be used to shop at Farmers Markets. WIC and Senior FMNP checks can be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. Shop by the Market Info Booth for a list of eligible vendors. For information on finding a WIC or Senior agency near you, call the Growing Up Healthy Hotline at 1-800-522-5006.

Fruit & Veggie Rx (FVRx) – The Fruit and Veggie Rx program allows doctors to write eligible patients a “prescription” of vouchers that can be used to purchase fresh fruits and veggies at the Farmers Market. The vouchers can also be used at other local markets, farm stands, and grocery outlets. For a list of participating locations, click here.

To redeem your vouchers at the market, you can either spend your $5.00 voucher directly with a produce vendor or you can stop by the Market Info Booth to exchange for vouchers for $1.00 increments.
