Market Shopping Tips

Arrive Early – but not TOO Early

Arriving early guarantees the best selection. However, please keep in mind that we open at 9 am and vendors may still setting up and not ready to sell before then. If you arrive at the market prior to 9 am, feel free to check out our Taste NY store, which opens at 8, or our Cutler Botanic Garden.

Learn What’s in Season

Learning what’s in season helps you to have the right expectations about what you can find at the market and when. For example, our market will not have tomatoes in January as they are not in season in Upstate NY at that time. Stop by the Market Info Booth for a seasonal produce guide.

Come Prepared

While some of our vendors accept credit cards, it’s always a good idea to bring cash to a Farmers Market, in addition to your reusable shopping bags.

Leave The Pets at Home

While we love animals, pets are not allowed at the market due to local health department regulations. Service animals are welcome at the market.

Be Mindful of the Space Around You

Our market is a narrow building. If you are roaming in a group, we ask that you are mindful of the space you take. Try not to stop and chat in the middle of the aisle, creating a traffic jam. Be aware of lines at vendor booths. Be aware of the space and movements around you.

Ask Questions

Vendors and market staff are here to help and educate. Ask vendors about produce you are unfamiliar with or growing practices. Stop by the Market Booth for seasonal recipes, info on benefit programs, or just to say hello!

Be Respectful of the Product

Try not to over-handle products. If you need help reaching something or checking the ripeness of produce, ask a vendor for help.

Enjoy Your Trip to the Market

The market is a place where you can grab a coffee, a bite to eat, and the freshest food around all in one trip. Enjoy all the market has to offer. Take advantage of being able to try new things and getting to know the people who feed our community. Most importantly, have fun!
